Published

If you were sent a notice about the July 2023 cyberattack on the Lester and Rosalie Anixter Center, you have until October 19, 2026 to claim benefits from a class action settlement. The settlement website says “The only way to receive benefits or payments from this Settlement is by submitting a valid and timely Claim Form.” This one differs from many data breach settlements in a useful way: the cash amounts are fixed, and the lawyers’ fees are paid separately by Anixter, not out of your benefits. This guide covers who is in, the three cash options and which one pays most, how to file, and what the court still has to do.

The quick answer

  • Who is in: “All individuals in the United States sent a notice of the Data Breach”
  • Identity protection: “one year of CyEx Identity Defense Complete,” with “$1 million in identity theft insurance”
  • Cash, pick one route: a flat $50, or documented losses up to $5,000 and/or up to three hours of your time at $17.50 an hour (maximum $52.50)
  • You cannot mix the flat $50 with the other two. The form says “DO NOT CLAIM THIS BENEFIT IF YOU ARE CLAIMING PAYMENTS FROM SECTION III OR IV”
  • Deadline: October 19, 2026, online, by email, or by mail with a postmark that day
  • To file online you need the LoginID and PIN printed on your notice
  • Court: final approval hearing November 23, 2026 at 9:30 a.m. Central; payments follow approval and any appeals
  • Opting out and objecting closed on September 18, 2026

Diagram: your choices in the Anixter Center data breach settlement, one year of identity protection for every class member, then either a flat 50 dollar payment with no proof, or documented losses up to 5,000 dollars together with up to 52 dollars and 50 cents for three hours of your time, with the October 19 claim deadline

What the incident and the lawsuit are about

The notice says the case “is about the targeted cyberattack on Anixter’s computer systems that occurred in July 2023.” Certain files that contained private information were accessed, and “These files may have contained personally identifiable information.” The notice does not list the data types. The court has decided nothing about fault: “Anixter denies that it did anything wrong, and the Court has not decided who is right.”

Who is in the class

The court’s definition is “All individuals in the United States sent a notice of the Data Breach.” Excluded are Anixter and its officers, directors, and related companies, anyone who validly excluded themselves, the lawyers for the parties, the judge and the judge’s family and staff, and “anyone who perpetrated the Data Incident.” The notice says “Anixter’s records indicate that you are a Class Member, and entitled to benefits under the Settlement. You may have received a previous notice directly from Anixter.”

If you are not sure whether you are in, the notice offers free help by phone, “Call toll free, 24/7: 1-833-421-7316,” or by email at info@AnixterDataSettlement.com.

The benefits, and which cash option pays most

Every class member may claim identity protection. On the cash side, the form says “All Settlement Class Members may claim Identity-Theft Protection and Credit Monitoring and one or more of the cash payment options.”

BenefitWhat you getWhat it takes
Identity protectionOne year of CyEx Identity Defense Complete: “real time monitoring of your credit file,” “dark web scanning,” and “comprehensive public records monitoring”Check the box on the claim
Expense reimbursementUp to $5,000 for out-of-pocket lossesProof such as bank statements or receipts
Lost-time reimbursementOne, two, or three hours at $17.50 an hour: $17.50, $35.00, or $52.50A short description of how you spent the time, and a sworn statement
Alternative cash paymentA one-time $50.00 paymentNothing to document

The rule that decides the choice: “Instead of any other cash payment option, you may claim a one-time $50.00 cash payment.” So the flat $50 is either/or, while expense reimbursement and lost time can be claimed together. Our arithmetic on what that means:

Your situationBetter choice
You have documented lossesExpense reimbursement, plus lost time if you spent the hours. The flat $50 only wins if your documented losses and time total less than $50
No documents, three hours spent on the incidentLost time pays $52.50, $2.50 more than the flat payment, but you must describe the work and swear to it
No documents, one or two hoursThe flat $50 beats $17.50 or $35.00
Nothing to document and no time to describeThe flat $50

Expense reimbursement covers “losses because of identity theft or fraud,” “fees for credit reports, credit monitoring, or freezing and unfreezing your credit,” “cost to replace your IDs,” and “postage to contact banks by mail,” for losses between July 17, 2023 and October 19, 2026. The notice says “You need to send proof, like bank statements or receipts, to show how much you spent or lost.” You can add notes you wrote yourself, but “those notes or papers alone are not enough to make a valid claim.” And “You cannot claim a payment for expenses that have already been reimbursed by a third party.”

Lost time is for time spent on “changing your passwords,” “investigating suspicious activity in your accounts,” and “researching the Data Incident.” You “must briefly describe how you spent this time.”

How to file

Online. The claim page says “To start your online claim form, you must login with your LoginID and PIN. You can find your Login ID and PIN on the Notice that was sent to you.” If you lost the notice, ask the administrator for help at the phone number or email above.

By mail. Download and print the claim form from the site, complete and sign it, and mail it with any proof to the P.O. box above. The claim page says “If you are mailing your Claim Form, it must be mailed with a postmark date no later than October 19, 2026.”

By email. The paper form says “An electronic image of the completed Claim Form can also be emailed to info@AnixterDataSettlement.com,” and adds “You must submit your Claim Form online, by mail, or by email no later than October 19, 2026.”

The form also asks you to choose a payment method: PayPal, Venmo, Zelle, a virtual prepaid card, or a physical check mailed to your address. You sign “on penalty of perjury that the information provided in this Claim Form, including supporting documentation, is true and correct to the best of my knowledge,” and the form says you “must notify the Settlement Administrator if your contact information changes after you submit this claim form.”

Unlike the Tift Regional and Doxim settlements, this one’s deadline is stated the same way everywhere we looked: online or postmarked by October 19, and by email by that date. Our guides to the Tift Regional data breach settlement and the Doxim data breach settlement cover claims with different rules and amounts.

What the court still has to do

The hearing is “11/23/2026 at 9:30 a.m. CT,” and the notice says “Settlement payments will be distributed if the Court grants final approval, and after any appeals are resolved.” The site gives no payment date.

The lawyers’ pay does not come out of your benefits. The notice says “Class Counsel will ask the Court to approve $185,000.00 as reasonable attorney’s fees and costs of litigation. This amount will be paid by Anixter separate and apart from all other benefits available under the Settlement.” A $2,000 service award for the class representative is also paid by Anixter separately. We found no pro rata reduction or overall cap described in the notice, the FAQ, or the claim form, so the cash amounts read as fixed, but the settlement agreement controls and we have not read its full text.

What doing nothing means

The site says “Unless you opt out of the Settlement, you are automatically part of the Settlement. If you do nothing, you will not receive benefits or payments from this Settlement and you will give up the right to sue, continue to sue, or be part of another lawsuit against the Defendant related to the legal claims resolved by this Settlement.” The deadlines to opt out and to object were September 18, 2026, so those choices are closed. “The deadline to exclude yourself from the Settlement is September 18, 2026.”

Check that it is real

The notice states “A court has authorized this notice. This is not a solicitation from a lawyer.” File only on the official site or by mail or email to the administrator, and treat a message that asks for a fee or a bank login as suspect. The notice also says “DO NOT CONTACT THE COURT OR CLERK OF COURT REGARDING THIS SETTLEMENT.” Our October 2026 settlement deadlines guide lists the other claim windows closing this month.

Is the Anixter Center data breach settlement real? Yes. It is a class action in the Circuit Court of Sangamon County, Illinois, No. 2025LA000252, with a court-authorized notice and a hearing set for November 23, 2026.

How much is the Anixter settlement payment? A flat $50, or documented losses up to $5,000, or up to $52.50 for three hours of lost time, plus one year of identity protection.

What is the Anixter settlement claim deadline? October 19, 2026.

Can I take the $50 and the reimbursements? No. The flat $50 is instead of the other cash options. Expense and lost-time reimbursement can be combined.

Do I need proof? Only for expense reimbursement. Lost time needs a short description and a sworn statement, and the flat $50 needs nothing.

What do I need to file online? The LoginID and PIN on your notice.

When will I be paid? After the November 23 hearing and any appeals. No date is posted.

Bottom line

If you were sent a notice about the July 2023 Anixter Center cyberattack, file by October 19, 2026, online with the LoginID and PIN, by email, or by mail with a postmark that day. Take the free year of CyEx Identity Defense Complete either way. For cash, the flat $50 is the simple choice unless you have documented losses or the full three hours of time, in which case expense and lost-time reimbursement together pay more. Expect payment only after the November 23 hearing and any appeals, and remember opting out and objecting are closed.
